Outlaws, In-laws and Addiction.

Posted by Amethyst Anne in , ,
I may have a slightly addictive personality. By which I don’t imply that my personality is addictive, no I am referring to my tendency to hone in and become completely and utterly absorbed with the flavour of the day.
I have spent countless hours hunched over a sewing machine, sitting at a computer, crafting sparkly nipple decorations, knitting etc. Until the project I am working on is DONE! I cannot do anything else, my brain doesn’t function properly. For me there are no other options. Of course this addictive nature has got me into some troublesome spots with regards to other things that may or may not be good for me. Fun- yes, healthy- hells no. But that’s not what I am talking about here ,so you will hear no wild stories today.
Where the hell was I going- oh yeah, that addiction thing, it applies to TV shows too.  Most noticeably a few years back, the man I sleep with and I got turned onto Dexter. Of course we started late and we immediately got hooked. We rented the DVD’s of the first Season and we watched them back to back so that we could start the second season all good to go. This wasn’t too bad, but this time.
You see the husband talked me into watching Sons of Anarchy. I was resistant at first, and I must say that this show just finished up its third season, so there are two seasons to watch on DVD, and one season on the boob tube to watch. That is a lot of catch up.
So after the first episode I was hooked. I mean HOOKED. Did I mention that the show is about a Biker club? You know, bikers, sexy, mean, alpha bikers.. psst husband, you should stop reading right now and go look at something else for awhile..
Go on, I’ll wait.....
Is he gone?
Ok, good he’s gone, so yeah, um, bikers.. yummy ones- but that aside the show itself is unbelievable!  The women are strong and fierce, the plots are well written, the characters are solid and yeah  it is addictive as all get the hell out.
Of course, we watched the first season back to back ( 13 episodes per season, 1 hour each) we were averaging 3 a night!! We would get everything done that needed to and after The Cub went to bed we would hunker in for a three hour tour of biker land.
This all started last Thursday.
Last night we finished Season 2, because we had too. (26 episodes in 6 days)
Now don’t you be judging me.... We had to finish it because the inlaws are coming for a visit. I couldn’t leave it mid season for 4 days!! GAH!!
The mother in law, sister in law, niece ,boyfriend/baby daddy and the great nephew are coming for a visit.
Yes you read that right. I became a Great Aunt in January. Actually I prefer the term Greatest Aunt. ( oh yeah this has gone a long way to my overall old feeling)
Anyhoooo, there will be company; company that I needed to clean the house for. Like clean as in actually really clean for because, well, it is my MOTHER IN LAW.
So you see where I may have gotten into a smidge of trouble? I’ve had my ass parked in front of the TV drooling over Bikers when I should have been CLEANING...
Yes they come today. They are enroute as we speak.
No panic!
There are dishes all over my kitchen.
The bed needs to be made.
There are dust bunnies abound!
I am at work, and the last time I checked the Fur kids are rather useless when it comes to cleaning.
*breathes in..*
Oh and know what?
It was TOTALLY worth it!!
Bring on Season 3!!
Vrrooom, Vrooom..

Lackluster

Posted by Amethyst Anne in , ,
Well that about sums up my total outlook these days.
I can't pinpoint exactly what is making me so damn apathetic, lethargic and somewhat bitchy.
From what my apathetic soul can ascertain it is a myriad of things that have accumulated to induce this lackluster approach to life.

It all sort of started with The Birthday.

The Birthday that brings me one year closer to that age that starts with 4. I had a hard time with it, I wanted to avoid it, but the son of a bitch happened anyway. I don't know why this year bothered me so much, ok I lie, I have a few good ideas as to why and it may or may not have something to do with my fucking biological clock.

Then there is the weather. We have had a distinct  lack of nice weather. By this I mean actual Spring! We are still blanketed with snow and encompassed with cold mother freaking weather. You know the kind that begs for you to stay in bed, huddled under the shelter of the covers. I yearn for sandals, shaved legs and the warmth of the sun on my face as I sit in my back yard.....*sigh*

Work seems to be another major 'issue'; apparently I have so much time on my hands that I am 'able' to do the workload of 4 people for the same salary as 1.  This of course causes me to be extremely enthusiastic about going to work!

Oh and we must not forget the back!! The back with the L4, L5 issue that makes my ass feel like someone has it stuck in a vise. I have been taking Ibuprofen and muscle relaxants so often that I consider them their own food group.

Then at the depth of my fight with the depression demon, there has been light. Light filled with friendship, warmth and compassion from places I would never have imagined.
These unexpected gifts warmed me to the very core of my being and affected me in so many ways that I cannot even begin to explain.
So I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you for helping me see the light in the darkness, just by being you.
You guys know who you are, and your friendship means more to me that you will ever know.

Smooches!!

Raging Momma and interface issues

Posted by Amethyst Anne in , ,
We apologize over here at The Lunch Hour for our lack of posting of late. Specifically we have been experiencing issues with referring to ourselves in the third person and have taken on multiple personalities.
In addition to this troublesome affliction, we have also been experiencing some technical issues. In reality it has been an interface issue between the blog, keyboard and the user. You see there has been this rather large amount of paperwork that has plopped itself right in front of the computer and sadly until that mother is gone and filed; ok who are we kidding it will get filed much much later, there hasn't been any bloggin to be had.
Until today!!!
Today I managed to dust off the keyboard to resurface for some much needed air....and venting....
Last Friday, I went to pick up Cub from his school, because right now I get to telecommute from home on Fridays- YEAH.. never mind that this is in lieu of a raise.. But I digress.
So there I was all lined up and looking all Stay at home Mommyish with all the other parents and parent type people waiting for my child to surface from the sea of little faces. I have to clarify that at this particular door there were approximately 20 some adults ( of which I use the term loosely) waiting and gabbing with each other because they all seem to know each other.. Again I venture into uncharted territory;
The bell goes, out emerges the sea of little people, they swarm over the adults in a wave like motion as we scan the crowd for our particular offspring.
As I am scanning the crowd for my Cub I hear off to my right, in the playground those words every kid hates to hear.
"FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT"
Immediately I scan the sea to see two little boys circling each other. I watch for a few minutes to see what exactly will transpire, a small child crowd gathers, the boys start to tussle. Another boy steps in appearing to stop the 'fight' but his role becomes clear- he's the referee. He pushes them apart and then yells
"Now you can fight."
It is at this point that the one boy (fists balled) starts to exclaim that he doesn't want to fight as the other boy grabs his jacket and attempts the hockey sweater over the head maneuver and punches start to fly.
I turn to look at the crowd of parents to see if perhaps one of these (if not both) children's parents are around.
Nobody moves, and the parents are all standing around, silent, now watching this fight.
The one boy is obviously the aggressor, and this is by no means a play fight. It's getting worse. Again I look around at all the parents, who are still watching! There are no teachers out in the school yard yet because they are all still trying to get the kids out the doors.
I have to say this, Cub's school has a zero tolerance policy on bullying and fighting and I cannot fathom what I am witnessing. There are 20 some parents standing around just watching these two boys duke it out.
I've had enough and as a parent of a child who was bullied so badly last year, I cannot stand by and let some one else's child get the shit kicked out of him.
I yell in my holy fuck mom is mad voice;
"BOYS KNOCK IT OFF. NOW!" and the crowd scatters. The fight is over.
It is at this point that my Cub gives me a big hug and whispers, "Mom, I know those boys!"
As I turn to my child, I catch the eye of a nearby woman, who shakes her head and TSK's me.
"EXCUSE ME?" and she turns away.
Now please don't get me wrong, I get it that kids fight and that there are times when it may look much worse than what it is, but this was not one of those times. What upset me and pissed me off (for Hours afterward) was the fact that there were over 20 other ADULTS there standing around watching and by proxy condoning this fight.
Had a teacher been present, both boys would have been hauled off to the office and parents would have been called.
I spent the next hour explaining to Cub why I did what I did and what all of those adults did by standing around and not saying something was wrong.
Am I wrong to assume that if it was my kid getting the shit kicked out of him that someone would stand up and say Stop! Is it general apathy? Is it fear of 'parenting' someone else's child? I am still stunned that my voice was the only one.
Later that night, I was concerned that Cub would suffer the consequences of my actions at the hands of the children, but I reassured myself that it occurred on a Friday and generally they have the memory of a goldfish, so we went along our merry weekend way.
When Cub went to school on Tuesday (after an extra special stay at home with Mommy because it is too freaking ass cold out) one little bitch of a child walked up to my son and told him that his Mommy was mean!
Cub was visibly upset, and then I was left to explain that this girl had never met me and none of his friends thought I was mean (Thank god- cause really there have been times I tell ya) and that if she or anyone else ever said anything to him about me, that he was to tell them, "Thanks for the information, but you should really tell my mom that." and walk away.
I am preparing. I am armed for Friday's pick up this week. In fact I am pretty sure, that little bitch and I are going to go a couple of rounds in the school yard while the rest of the parents stand by and watch, and silently chant ;
Fight, FIGHT, FIGHT..

I'm kidding of course, I'll find her Mother :)
